    Won't Recognize Hard Drive

So I have this issue where my 500gb SATA hard drive isn't seen by Win 7 (running 64 bit Pro).

The thing is, when I installed it (from what I can remember) it saw the 500gb hdd even though it wouldn't allow me to install on it.

I've tried different SATA ports on my MOBO and nothing. It's not a huge deal since I have an external 500gb but I'd rather use up the internal before. Plus it'd be nice to know what's currently on the internal one.

So any ideas on what I can do next to get it working?

Perhaps you need to install the SATA driver for that drive? Check the manufacturers web site.

By "not seen", where specifically are you not seeing it? Is it not listed in diskmgmt? Is it not listed in diskpart / list disk? Or is it just not listed in Explorer or the shell?

    Disk Manager

Your issue stems from the fact that the newly installed HDD has not been assigned a letter by your operationg system.
Review the attached image where you will see the newly installed HDD and assign it a drive letter.

Thanks everyone for replying back...I actually broke the first rule of troubleshooting.

First thing you always do is check to see if it's plugged in...and it wasn't

It's being read by Win 7 now and now I get the fun of backing those files to my external...whoo D:
