Do you still have the old number? You may be able to use it to Activate Windows 7 by Phone.

You can audit your Product Key from HD before you reinstall, but not now.

Why not safeguard a Win7 Prodcut key like you would a $100 currency note?

Your vendor might have a record of what key he issues since he seems to have to dole them out repeatedly.

By no luck, do you mean he hasn't responded, or that he refused to help? Both are completely different scenarios.

Good morning Classic, is the aforementioned Windows 7 disk an OEM or is it an actual vendor disk? If its a hack no dice. If its an actual Microsoft product you can call Microsoft and based on your request they will give you the authentication code. What you will provide them is the OEM code and they will tell you based on the info give them the Key.

It does sound like someone is selling hacked keys.

It is an actual win 7 home prem disk not a copy. Does Microsoft have record of validation from my Ip address 60 days ago???

The "genuine" thing isn't the disk - it's the COA (certificate of autheticity). Retail and OEM Windows disks (or machines with WIn7 pre-installed) are supposed to come with one. I wonder what you were sold; doesn't sound legitimate.

There are two steps to activation. The first one is entering the license key. If Window recognizes it as genuine by some internal test, it computes a code, which is what is actually sent to the Microsoft activation server. If the server doesn't like that, you may be able to activate by telephone, in which case you give that code (not the original key) either to an automated system or a human operator. You'd receive an activation code in retrun, which you'd then type in to the PC.

If you can't get Windows to accept the license key, before activation, I know of no way to continue the process.

You may be out the price of a new Win7 license. I suggest that you the new one from some source other than an "IT person".

It would be of great help to know where you purchased the disk. Was it from a local store, from a friend, from Ebay? This will tell us a lot about the problem.
