    Recovery DVD from .swm files

    Hi,
I´ve bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L650-10H with preinstalled OS Win7 Home Premium. I wanted to install XP on it to other partition but it overwrited some files in Win7. I´ve formatted it because I thought I can recovery it from .swm files. But how should I do it?

    Thanks,

Hello Matthew0014, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have a look at the tutorial at the link below to see a way to create a recovery disk that may repair your Windows 7 as I assume you don't have a Windows 7 install disk.
Be sure to post back with an update on how you get on.

    Hi Bare Foot Kid,

The tutorial what you´ve written is good when the Win7 is working. But in my case it is not working. I only have .swm filoes and some other recovery folders and files. I tried to extract the .swm files with WAIK, but there are 9 files. I could extracted only the first file, but I think the best choice is downloading Win7.

    Thanks,

I have no knowledge of what you are trying to extract.

When you install XP in a dual boot with Win7 it takes over the boot until you add Win7 back using EasyBCD 2.0.

If you have formatted over XP and only want to restart Win7, then make the Repair CD which BFK linked, boot into Recovery Tools to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots until Win7 starts.

If this fails, make sure Win7 partition is marked Active first using DISKPART from the CD command line: Partition - Mark as Active

Then run Startup Repair again up to 3 separate times which should start Win7.

If all attempts to start Win7 fails, copy out your files if necessary: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

If you have a Win7 installer you can reinstall using the Product Key on COA sticker on machine. In that case, I would install XP first so that WIn7 will auto-configure the Dual Boot menu: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

If you don't have or can't locate a Win7 installer to clean reinstall, then use your Recovery Disks which should have been made when you got computer, or try running the Recovery Partition using key given on first boot screen or in Manual at Support Downloads webpage for your comptuer. See what options are given to direct install to certain partition, as you might be able to install XP first anyway and then run Recovery.
