Need Help : About Windows 7 HP OEM Licence.

    Hi,

I bought Sony VIAO Laptop VPCEB26G/B this week (18/08/2010) and this is my 1st Laptop which came with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium Pre-Installed. There was an authentication sticker under the Laptop which Reveals a Product Key (Windows 7 Serial Key). There is no Disc in the Laptop Box.

The Laptop HDD contain a normal C: Drive 452.04 GB as well 13.62 GB Recovery Partition, 100 MB Windows 7 Reserve Space. As the manual stated if something happens System Recovery is the only way.To recover the VIAO, either use Recovery Partition or Recovery Disc (Made 1 set DVDs). Upon completing Recovery successfully it land me up to the Factory setting condition.

I checked the Sony Viao Website, not much info about my question.

    My question is,

    1. Can I Re-install the Windows 7 Home Premium from any Win7 Disc by using the key which is printed at the bottom of my laptop and activate the product during instillation or later ?.

    2. If I do the Recovery which make the Lappy to Out-of-the box(Default Factory Setting) position means no Win7 Update installed,no program install nothing, and in the mean time if MS release a Service Pack for the Win 7.....Do I need to installed that too once I done the Recovery. Is there any way I can preserve this update so later it save me all data download?

I want to use this Win7 HP License as I don't want to buy another license for Laptop.

Please experts, any input is most valuable to me.Still now I don't even use the machine, in fear of losing windows.

Hope I post in the correct section....If not mod please move it to correct section.

    1) you can use the license with any Home Premium disc. Let's say, you wanted to do a clean install with a retail copy of 7, you could do that, but you most likely have to activate by phone.

    2) Using the recovery partition will erase all programs and updates. The only way to preserve updates and programs is to make recovery disc or regular back-ups to an external hard drive. Technically speaking, you could create another partition to do this on, but if the drive itself fails, you will be out of luck.

To Phone Whom, Sony VIAO Service Center or Microsoft ?

From where to create the Recovery Disc ?

(I'm sure it is not from the VIAO Recovery Center which I already create Recovery DVD set {contain 4 Single Layer DVD} which actually recover the factory setting)

I wsill leave Petey7 to answer your questions but would like to state one tip for your system - please ensure that you make a record of the key on the authentication sticker on the bottom of the laptop, immediately.

Unfortunately these stickers tend to wear quickly, and obscure the key, if you have a record now in a safe place you may well find that essential if you need the key to re-install in some months or years.

I always take a photo of the bottom of the laptop showing the key plus any manufacturer data such as serial numbers issue numbers etc.

Thats okay. A lot of people haven't had to do either before. To activate by phone you have to call Microsoft. The phone number is provided during the activation process. The recovery disc I speak of are similar to the ones you would have already made. I'm not really good at explaining it, so I have included links to tutorials describing how to do both.

Here is the report of another user who just clean reinstalled his new OEM computer: Clean Install Windows 7 that was preinstalled on computer.

He had to do the robocall during activation as is normal since the Product Key on COA sticker is a batch key which has to be parsed by the exchange of a series of numbers.

Here is a good free, more reliable imaging program to make an image of the lappy now, to be restored later, as you update the OS you would need to create a new image to keep it current, you would need to save the image to an external location like an external Hard Disk Drive (HDD) somewhere safe.

    Macrium Reflect FREE Edition

If you cannot find an actual Home Premium disk to use, you can use the tutorial at the link below to unlock the "All Versions" installer on any version Windows 7 installation DVD so you can install Home Premium as you will have to use HP as that's what the serial key is for and it won't activate another version.

    Thanks for the response.......

Now I want to know do MS allow to download Trial of Windows 7 ? Where do I get safe version of Windows 7 .iso without purchase a key, as I already have the OEM Key ?

    BTW....What is the Robocall ?

What is the best .iso making software ? easy one and most probably the free one.

We cannot link you to ISO downloads as it encourages piracy. Borrow any installer from a friend to unlock all versions to install your licensed version. If you download from the web, be careful to match the HASH against the official release HASH to assure nothing has been added, and rightclick scan with your AV immediately.

ImgBurn - to extract the ISO from installer for running ei.cfg removal tool to unlock all versions, then burn all-versions DVD at 4x speed with verify - it never fails.
