Upgrading From Vista to Windows 7 a Good Idea?

l haven't owned a Windows computer in years
but I'm looking forward to 7. I have only heard
    good things.

Is it good advice to reinstall 7 over Vista on a two
    year old system?

    The advice will b 4 a non-techie (not myself). I'm
    buying a new machine.

Welcome to the Seven Forums! downplay

Having run Vista Home Premium since that was released following it's own RC1 and tested 7 there is only one best answer which would be to perform a clean install of 7 from the start! Clean Install Windows 7

In the event you or someone purchases only an upgrade disk and not a full version installation dvd(retail) you can also follow the next guide. Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

W7 is a little more then impressive while the previous version is still run by many. Depending on the particulars as far as system specifications as well as hardware driver support that would play a role in which flavor of the 7 edition to install. (flavor = 32bit or 64bit Windows)

LOL! Yeah, I suppose a working upgrader still doesn't fit
    Microsoft's business model.

Oh well, I don't need an upgrader. I need a solid OS for a
    decent price.

    Thanks!

We both posted the link for the same guide at the same time! richc46

Now to decide on which edition you will want to go with?! downplay

Obviously the Ultimate has all the features while many opt for the Pro to save a little there. For a simple machine the Home Premium is often the choice.
