Tried to install windows xp to dual boot with

i tried to install windows xp in my bnew acer 4745g laptop preinstalled with windows 7 enterprise(trial for now).

but at first try while installing the xp i got a message like.. windows will shutdown to prevent damage..

    what should i do.

btw i already create a partition for xp while installing w7 because i already had a plan having xp as my 2nd os because of some programs incompatibility in w7.. is that ok to use that partition?

Delete the paritition you created for XP in Win7 Disk Mgmt.

Boot the XP CD, create a new partition in the space you made and full format during install.

This is because the partition table is slightly different with XP.

After install, you'll need to install EasyBCD 2.0 (which requires Net Framework 2.0 to run in XP) to Add Win7 to the Dual Boot menu.

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed harddrives or harddrive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure its properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruptions, and then restart your computer.

You may need insert the SATA controller drivers into XP install at F6 prompt during driver-loading phase right after CD boots. Unfortunately this only works with floppy (XP is really old) so if you don't have one you'll need to slipstream them into the XP installer: SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD - Windows 7 Forums.URL

You could also have an infection or the boot files could be corrupted.

In that case what I would do is wipe the HD to remove any trace of infection and boot code, then reinstall using the correct method for multi-booting which is to install in order of OS age, XP first.

Create/full format your XP partition using XP CD, then create/format your Win7 partition using Win7 DVD>Drive Options
