Windows 7: Problems booting windows 7 dvd

19 Aug 2010   #11

Where did you get Win7?

Try burning the DVD again using ImgBurn at 4x Speed - it never fails.

Or try installing using USB flash stick: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Try running the installer from XP. Then try extracting the files to XP desktop to run Setup.

Next try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Do you have the latest BIOS version update? If so, then try clearing the CMOS:

Try setting SATA controller to AHCI, then IDE if necessary.

Test your memory, remove all but 2gb to try install, swap memory sticks. Next test your HD using maker's full diag/repair CD scan:

Windows XP

Today i tryed something els, i borrowed my friends Vista dvd and basically the same thing. Nice screen but nothing appears.

That guy here got the same problem as i do so i think it has something to do with my HD. Never had any problems installing XP again and again and again. I got a Maxtor HD but there are 5 downloads, which one should i take. I should have said before that i dont know a lot about that sort of problems and how to fix them...

EDIT: downloaded 64 bit one for testing and same result

Windows XP

Is it possible that for some good reason i don't have SATA drivers installed and this is causing the problem? The reason why i don't think i have them installed is because when i wanted to change SATA controller to AHCI, then IDE i had no SATA to choose and it was already using IDE and i could choose between RAID and ACHI. Also after visiting Gigabyte it showed me some SATA drivers what i could download but there was a text under them that they are supposed to be installed durning a install of a windows. Does it make any sense or? I really wan't to get W7 finally working for many reasons...

About SATA drivers, I don't believe so as Windows 7 is pretty much driver complete, there should be no need to add SATA drivers during install, Windows should add them automatically. If you can use the same disk to install to another PC then it is something specific to this machine, did you do all the tests Greg suggested above?
