Windows 7: 100MB System Reserved in Windows 7

22 Aug 2010   #31

To reiterate, if you format using the Installer's "Drive options (advanced)" then it will issue the 100mb SysReserved partition.

If you have a blank HD and do nothing with "Drive options," it will likely issue the 100mb Sys Reserved partition, since it auto-creates and auto-formats the partition if you do not.

Only if you have already an pre-partitioned HD or are installing to a pre-formatted partition does installer not issue the 100mb SysReserved partition.

To avoid it on the fly during install if it is issued: simply delete the partition given to install Win7, click on 100mb given for SysReserved partition to expand it to the size you want Win7 to be, format it, Install there.

Window's 7 Ultimate 64bit

I have installed windows 7 Ultimate on 4 systems and on two of then I selected advance format and they don't have the 100mb reserve partition, but the other two installs i didn't choose the advance format option and they have the 100mb partition on those two systems all installs were on new drives.

I guess it is better to leave those 100mb partitions alone and avoid a boot problem.

Where's my 100MB System Reserved partition?
I'm running XP Home SP3 and Win7 Pro 32 bit in a dual-boot setup. I use Macrium Reflect to image the entire boot drive. Looking at the graphic for Disk Management in both XP and Win7 (shown), I don't see the 100MB System Reserved partition, even though the numbers add up as shown. Shouldn't that...

Hello, recently while booting into Windows 7 a screen came up. It read something like, "Cannot boot into Windows possibly because of of recent hardware change." It requested my Windows 7 x64 installation disk which I did. The problem was repaired. However, I now have two 100MB system reserved...

Win 7 System Reserved partition smaller than 100MB?
I'm in the process of swapping out an HDD boot drive for a new Crucial M4 SSD, and discovered that a 100MB partition I created for "system reserved" files got squeezed down to 79MB by the Acronis cloning software I used. The SSD booted just fine with the smaller partition, and my offset is set to...
