connect ur new HDD to the computer and right click on computer->Manage-> storage Devices->Disk Management and right click on new drive and say format, then Shrink Volume, and then there u can specify the size (normally 50gb is enough but if u games to install then u can specify accrodingly and the remaining make the Data Drive... (you can take help of external partition managers also if u like.. I use Acronis Disk Detector suite) but u can go for a free one if u like 1 of them is

now copy the image file which u have on your External HDD to the bigger partition i.e. Data Partition and then CREATE A RESCUE MEDIA from Acronis True Image and then boot from the rescue media (may be a DVD rw, Pen Drive or so) and the Acronis Boot Loader starts then show the path to the image file and select the option and say go on...
