Hello I needed to replace my stock 120 gb with a 320gb/7200rpm planning on doing a clean install!
HDD upon install will windows automatically create the recovery partition?
if so My question is answered. if not How do I Create this I did back up using acronis true image but to an external HD. can I restore from this HD and if so how considering the New Hd is blank, or should i just wipe all and start again??

u can restore ur image of acronis true image from external HDD but I would suggest if u partition ur 320 gb in to 2 (1 for the data and 1 for OS) and then copy ur image on to the internal partition other than the OS partition and restore it from there then it would be good...
U see I always do that and it does it pretty neat and clean....:)

What confuses is copying my image onto the the internal partition.. What internal partition, u mentioned partitioning it in 2 one for data and one for the OS, should i allocate only the space needed for the OS and leave the remainder for data or should i allow extra for apps and such on THe OS partition
connect ur new HDD to the computer and right click on computer->Manage-> storage Devices->Disk Management and right click on new drive and say format, then Shrink Volume, and then there u can specify the size (normally 50gb is enough but if u games to install then u can specify accrodingly and the remaining make the Data Drive... (you can take help of external partition managers also if u like.. I use Acronis Disk Detector suite) but u can go for a free one if u like 1 of them is Cute Partition Manager - An advanced partition manager (Personally not tried)
now copy the image file which u have on your External HDD to the bigger partition i.e. Data Partition and then CREATE A RESCUE MEDIA from Acronis True Image and then boot from the rescue media (may be a DVD rw, Pen Drive or so) and the Acronis Boot Loader starts then show the path to the image file and select the option and say go on...

Let me know if you have any other problem...
