Cant install windows seven or vista.Whats wrong?

    If it's within a year you probably also have full warranty and tech support from manufacturer. I don't know whether Best Buy's protection overrides that but I doubt it. Call to see.

    They have a loophole where they can say they don't support Win7 install so just monitor closely what they do to get Vista installed (maybe pulling a memory stick - that's the first step I'd take with it) so you can do the same with your Win7 install. If you use Tech Support tell them you're reinstalling Vista if they tell you they won't support 7 install, then install 7 instead.

    I know it's frustrating but it's important to keep positive with them. When I've had to deal with them I call to ask when they're not too busy so I can come by, then they have given me help right away testing a power supply once with 2 or 3 geeks poking in the case to give their opinions. I noticed they had SevenForums open on a monitor.

    i called the manager at geeksquad he said i have to send it in and if it comes back broken if i sent it in again after that they will replace the unit i just tryed to install windows from a flash drive and i had the same effects

    Did you try install with only 2gb of RAM? Then swap the sticks.

    I would also run memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes to verify they checked the RAM under sustained load.

    If you can install XP, can you run 7 installer successfully from desktop?

    and i dont have windows xp

    for the hard drive testing i called theam the guy at bestbuy lied and told me they replaced it the other guys i called they told me it was never replaced

    A frequent cause of install problems is having more than 2gb of RAM. If you know how to guard against static electrictiy discharge which can fry your electronics (don't touch anything without touching the case first, or use a wrist strap) then carefully remove all but 2 gb to try install, or have a tech friend do it.

    Download the memtest86 image file and burn it to CD using ImgBurn at 4x speed. Boot the disk and run 5-6 passes of the test (you will see what passes are).

    Also download and burn to CD the maker's diag/repair utility to test your HD: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

    Another thing that often works is wiping the HD before install using this method: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

    Next reset the CMOS in BIOS setup using these steps: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixthe.../clearcmos.htm Check on the computer maker's Support Downloads webpage for your model to see if there is a newer BIOS version update which may solve issues you are experiencing.

    i got the pc back they put the os back on it but sometimes when im useing it the screen just goes black then i restart it and it says there has been a hardware failure it makes me do system restore and use a restore point i created just to get it back up and running
