    I see where you are going wrong. Disk 3 only consists of a single partition. At Step 9 of the Tutorial you need to enter Select Partition 1.

    i now have a bootable usb drive

    Firstly thanks to everyone who gave assistance.

    couple of things i found

    When you select your usb disk(my case it was disk 3)
    when you get to the part select partition 1. It is partition 1
    I wrongly assumed that as it was disk 3 it had to be partition 3.
    I also thought if i selected partition1 ,the next step being to format i would potentially format another drive not the usb drive.
    As disk 3 has been selected,then it is this drive you are putting a partition on EG partition 1.
    A bit confusing and it could have been explained better on the tutorial.

    Hope my efforts will help some else avoid the mistakes/assumption i made and hopefully my explanation is clear enough
