    He didn't in-place Upgrade, he clean installed 7 Professional over Vista Home Premium.

    Having any version of XP or Vista qualifies one for using Upgrade version.

    The chart shows only in-place Upgrade paths Vista>7.

    Since Vista was on a drive during install, a flag was passed allowing use of Upgrade version key so he can insert it at any time in the future without doing one of the workarounds.
