Windows 7 32bit. reformatting issues. Plz Help

Ok. So a while back I installed windows 7 ultimate I thought it was x64 but it was x32, on my toshiba a-300 o5m laptop and had no issues except for the fact I`m almost loosing 2 gb`s worth or ram...So now im tryig to reformat my laptop and install 64 bit. But, when I got to my boot menu on start up it will sit there with a underscore flashing in DOS prompt until it boots into windows again...it has become very frustrating and some input would be greatly appreciated....
    Cheers.

Is your laptop set to boot from your DVD Drive in the BIOS? If not, you will need to check in your BIOS and set this. Additionally, is this retail media or some other type of media for 64-bit Windows 7?

Since you've already had Windows installed on that drive, I suggest you follow this tutorial for re-install Windows 7.

Then look at imaging the OS right after installation using Macrium Reflect Free Edition. If you ever need to "reinstall" the OS later, you could first try to image back to a system you created right after a fresh install.

    Welcome to SevenForums.

Please use procedure in following link to prepare your drive for installation and to perform the installation.

Then immediately make yourself a system repair disc.

DISC - CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC
START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button
    ________________________________________

Now go to the MS update site and update your computer.

Final step is to make a system image backup using Windows 7 Backup and Restore. If you ever need to restore, you will be using the System Repair Disc.

This is all very well documented in this excellent tutorial:
