Size of Win7 compared to Vista

I've just installed Win7 and reinstalled Vista so both are 'as new'. What struck me is the size of the respective 'Windows' folder - 14.6Gb (70,204 files) for Vista and only 7.7Gb (46,233 files) for Win7. Quite incredible. Either Vista was very poorly designed or some cutting edge technology has been used in Win7...

They have cut back on a few programs in Win7. Such as not including the calendar and email apps.

How'd you get it so low? Both Beta and RC for me were around 10-11GB.

Wasn't anything I did. Could it be the build? I've got the latest, 7127 (at least I think it's still the latest...)

Turns out I was checking Windows -and Users- folders. That's probably why it was more. Supposedly, it should 16GB total, though. Maybe they're including pagefile and hiberfile with 3GB of RAM each.

    (For reference, I have 32-bit 7100)
