I went through method two I told disk part to select partition 1 which has a capacity of 465GB now(weird). Diskpart's response was there is no partition selected when told to activate. Partition 1 is the only partition present on the list. Thanks for all this help I am making slow but steady progress, I think. lol

It seems that formatting was left out of the tutorial"s steps for creating partition.

Unplug all other HD's, Boot DVD, Press Shift F10, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (if this is target HD)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    FORMAT
    ACTIVE
    EXIT

Now boot back into Install Now and try install to this partition.

No it wasn't, go back and look at Step Three in the tutorial to see the reasoning behind the way I wrote it, it's so you won't get the Windows.old file during the install that is created if the installer isn't used to format the HDD.
I quoted it in the Info box below!

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

       Information

    Step Three
    Format the Drive

One last step to make sure you don't get the "Windows.old" file during the process, when you get to the "Where do you want to install Windows" dialog box select "Drive options (advanced)" then "Format" and click next; then just finish the install!

Once DISKPART Clean or Clean All command is run then nothing is left for the installer to place in a windows.old folder since the HD has been wiped.

Sorry I should have typed out the commands myself as I normally do. I wrongly assumed Format was included in the commands given to create a partition after wiping HD.

Gregrocker rocks with this solution, i made a forum name just to say how great this worked. It seems that formatting was left out of the tutorial"s steps for creating partition.

Unplug all other HD's, Boot DVD, Press Shift F10, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (if this is target HD)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    FORMAT
    ACTIVE
    EXIT

Now boot back into Install Now and try install to this partition.

Thanks alot, i was all over the internet looking for a solution, this was it 8-)
