Installing Windows 7 on a ACER laptop I have ACER Aspire 1652 laptop which was preinstalled with XP it has a Centrino 1.73 G and 2 GIG of memory installed and 80 gig hard drive and I want to install Windows 7 but ACER do no longer supply any drivers for Windows 7 for chipset, graphics, LAN drivers for Windows 7. Does Windows 7 have the necessary drivers? Kind regards, Walter | My System Specs |

I cananot guarantee that 7 will have every single driver, but I have to rate the driver service as excellent. Very few have had problems in that area. Be sure to install while on line. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

I can't say for your specific laptop but I recently installed Win 7 Pro on my Acer Aspire One A0A150 netbook. Acer did not have any Win 7 (or Vista) drivers available on their website for it. Win 7 installed drivers for everything except the multi-card reader but I was able to find a driver for that and install it to make my netbook 100% functional in Win 7. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built, Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop OS Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Win 7 Pro (32-bit) CPU 3.4Ghz 3770K i7, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Motherboard Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H, Dell Memory 8G, 3G Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770, Mobile Intel 965 Sound Card High Definition Audio (Built-in to mobo) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2409W 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard IBM Model M - used continuously since 1986 Mouse Microsoft PSU Antec Case Antec 100 Cooling CM 212+ Hard Drives 128G SSD OS; 1.5T & 2T Data on Desktop, 320G for laptop Internet Speed 1.5M down 1.2M up :-( Other Info Also have an Acer Aspire netbook, a home-built AMD Dual core (Minecraft server) and home-built Pent 4 all running Win 7. Also have various machines running XP, Win Server 2K, Win Server 2003, Linux and DOS. I think I have a problem... |

Hmm, that does not look too promising. Maybe you can get away with some work arounds and some of the Vista drivers. But it will only be really clear once you tried it.
You could make a "test installation" without activating Windows 7 at first and see what happens. I believe you could operate that way for 30 days. Then at least you can reuse the product key on another PC later in case it does not work out. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |
