New to the forums, My question, I am about to migrate over to Win7 Pro this week, just waiting for a new video card. I have XP Pro (Sp3) now. I will be using a Win 7 Pro upgrade disk. I want to start with a fresh formatted HD, I will being using a second hd (D) with XP PRO installed, will I be able to use C, or must it be installed on the same HD partition(D)? I seem to recall something about having to be on the same partition. Thanks.

If you are in a place to install XP and Windows 7 to separate Hard Disk Drives (HDD) have a look at the info below for some ideas.

Information
The easiest way to do away with boot issues between Windows XP and Windows 7 is to use the BIOS one time boot menu to select which OS to boot at system startup.
If you have 2 separate Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and have one or the other installed to one HDD and you want to install the other; disconnect the HDD with the first OS installed on it and leave the HDD you want to install the second OS to connected.
Install the OS to the connected HDD and when complete and the system is booting good, power down and reconnect the second HDD with the first OS on it.
This way the OSs will boot independently of each other and there will be no boot conflicts between the 2 separate OSs to have to sort later.
Finished installing programs today. All in all the process was pretty easy, and FAST! Programs are running, replaced those that I could with 64 bit. I added a new video card, that was it. However, I did loose my HP 4C scanner and Adaptec 2906 SCSI card, no support. Not too happy about that, that scanner was great and not cheap, shame on HP. If anyone has any ideas on this, let me know, I would like to keep this and not buy another. Thanks to this forum, I had just found it a few days before crossing over to 7, I found a lot of very helpful info here from post and reading the forum! Made a potentially trying process easy and uneventful. Thank you.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver

As for the drivers, Adaptec on has win7 32, and HP nothing at all. I found many posts about HP scanners who have the same problem...they turned a lot of scanners into door stops.
