I installed windows 7 on my desktop where XP was already installed. Now, unless I have the RC1 DVD in the drive, the computer automatically boots to XP with no option. If I leave the DVD in the drive it gives me the ''press any key to boot from CD or DVD" then automatically goes to win7 if I dont press anything. I used BCD while in 7 and it didn't seem to have an effect. Help?!
Have you tried going to the BIOS menu and selecting boot from Internal HDD?

When I was installing Windows 7 on my desktop, I partitioned an unused hard drive into three separate partitions, one for Windows XP, one for Windows 7, and one just for data. I installed XP first on the first partition, then Windows 7 on the second partition.
I also installed it solely on a laptop, which only has Windows 7. Did you partition the drive when installing Windows 7, and install to the different partition?
I used partition magic to make a partition for win7. I did solve the problem by running bcde from winxp and letting it install the vista MRB or whatever it is. I went back and added an xp entry to the bootloader (or whatever it is, I did it at 5am and I was real tired). Now that screen to choose which OS is back.
