Laptop won't start up after deleting Ubuntu partition

So I was running Ubuntu and Windows 7 on my laptop on a 64 gb SSD and I decided that I no longer wanted to have Ubuntu taking up valuable space. I look around and it seemed like all I had to do was delete the partition that Ubuntu was taking up, which was close to 20GB. I did that, then I tried to combine the main partition and the previously ubuntu partition but it was separate volumes so I had no luck. I shut it down and when I tried to restart it, the screen is black with one line which reads, "grub recovery>" So again I've looked around but haven't found anything reliable to do. I thought this would be a good place to look. Any suggestions?

    Boot into System Recovery Options

open a Command line to mark Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred) active: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts on it own and holds the System Active flags.

Then post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk mgmt drive map with listings and we'll help you recover the HD space into Win7: Screen Shots

okay well it seems like I'm going to need a windows 7 disk to do this b/c I don't think I can get into the advanced boot menu through normal means. tutorial says tap f8 until it comes up, but it didn't. So i'll probably find a disc today or tomorrow and see what I can do with that

Always make a System Repair Disc before doing risky partitioning operations.

Okay well I made a system repair disk using windows 7 on my other hard drive and went to work(does it matter that it might be a different version of windows 7?). I did everything those guides showed, except when I try to do a startup repair it says there is no problem. Nevertheless, I did the "repairs" with a restart in between each of them and it still didn't work. This is what it says when I try to start up:

    error:unknown filesystem
    grub rescue>

At that point it allows me to enter commands. Any ideas?

I did the same thing you did. This got me going>

MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

Forget about the grub rescue. Reboot if you get there again.

+1 Hipster Doofus. GRUB is hogging the boot. The MBR has to be rebuilt using BOOTSEC.

All boot repair commands are automated in Win7 Startup Repair. It only needs the Win7 or it's boot partition marked Active to point it where to write the boot files..

If Win7 will not repair then you'll need to wipe GRUB off the HD as it corrupts Win7 beyond repair.

Thanks greg and hipster for your help. I managed to fix it using hipsters link. Now, I have another problem. The space that was used up by ubuntu is still unavailable for me to use. I know that I can create another "drive" with it, but I'd rather incorporate the space into the one I'm currently using. Any suggestions?

edit: I'll just create a new topic for this, thanks guys
