    installation problems

help!! was updating from vista to windows 7. During the install, it seemed to get stuck on 72%.. over 1 hour.. then rebooted. then the error" the computer restarted unexpectedly or enciountered an unexpected error.Windows instalation cannot proceed. to install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation". Ok, i hit ok button, reboots and takes me back to the same message. Sometimes, it will act like it is installing windows 7, but then eventually takes me back to the same window. I tried to do a system repair. but that doesnt work either. Any help would be appreciated

What version of Vista is on your computer?

Can you still access your Vista?

Have you installed the latest Vista service pack?

You can run WINVER.EXE to determiine which version of Vista you have installed.

Did you run the Upgrade Advisor? Normally, a Vista sytem will have no problems updating but still best to check.

You may need to wipe the HD to clean install Win7: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If you have files you need to copy out first, try this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

If you have a Recovery partition or made Vista Recovery Disks, you could also run those to restore to Vista, but since it will set it back to factory condition you might as well get the better clean install now of Win7.

If you want to save your Recovery Partition, then after booting the Win7 DVD, select Custom Drive Tools to delete the Vista partition only, create new partition there, format before install.

If you dont' care about saving the Recovery Partition, you can wipe the HD of all code to get cleaner: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

vista looks like it was gone. Put the install windows 7 disk, looks like it was maybe loading, same message came up and then would reboot. Tried to do a repair and did the same thing. I installed another hard drive, Installed window 7 and it loaded perfectly, Will piggy back the other hard drive a move files and picture to it and wipe that one clean

Excellent. Sounds like your system is almost ready to go.
