    Is it right time to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode ?


    Hello

    Since UEFI exists, some people talk about BIOS replacement by UEFI in short-term (2011 for exemple) (see "News").

    Who never has problem with BIOS bugs ? I must fight against several problems on one of my mobos because of its incorrect BIOS code, essentially for long time boot BIOS and very buggy S3 sleep mode.

    However, when I read many posts about people who have installed their Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode, I'm afraid of some new problems that UEFI causes, according to these people, even during a Windows session, even if installation was fine.

    I would like to know your experience about UEFI, on motherboards which support it (my motherboard is an Intel DG45ID which proposes UEFI boot).

    I think most cost effective motherboards are still BIOS/MBR. I haven't really looked hard but I haven't seen any UEFI motherboards readily available where I am. I'd only jump to UEFI at this stage if I needed > the 2TB limit. 1TB at a time is big enough for me to backup. If the BIOS is playing up can't you flash it to a later version?

    I have Home Premium x64 running in UEFI on my media center rig.
    It's and Intel BOXDH57DD MoBo with an i3-540 and 4GB of Corsair DDR3.
    It's running stable, but the promises of faster boot times aren't really there.
    Also, the boot-splash (the pulsing Windows Logo) gets some boot artifacts overlaid, so the boot process doesn't appear (purely visually) to be quite as clean.

    I've been tempted since I got the thing to try UEFI against my HP 8540w...but just haven't bitten the bullet on that one yet.
