    BSOD when installing Win7

    Hello folks, here's my situation:

I already have Win7x64 installed but right now is crippled by a virus. So instead of installing a anti virus program I just decided that I want to start anew and reformat everything and install win7 fresh. So I throw the disc in and boot from it, it loads up some "files" and goes to the Win7 animation, then it blue screens. The error message that I get out of it says wimFsf.sys is the culprit and after that it says page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. I tried swapping out ram sticks, right now I have 2 2 gig rams in there, I tried taking one out, switching the spots, and even put 2 1 gig rams in there but nothing worked. Any ideas?

If you want to try to rescue your system and/or files, burn an AV rescue disk with file-copying capability, run full scan from boot: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List or use Paragon Rescue CD to copy out files to quarantine/scan: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/rk-express/

Next boot memtest86 CD to test RAM for 5-6 passes. http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Download and burn to CD the maker's HD diagnostics/repair CD to do a full scan then zero the HD so Win7 DVD will autostart to reinstall. http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Otherwise use free Partition Wizard bootable CD to wipe the HD from Disk tab, autostart Win7 DVD to Custom reinstall. http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

That error usually is bad media (DVD) have you tried it on another machine?

It may also be a boot sector virus that launches when booting corrupting the data.

Let us know about the dvd

cool thanks for the reply guys, I'll try to get a fresh copy of that dvd n slow burn it and see how it goes. And greg, thats a lot of stuff for a simple reformat and install, but I will try if nothing else works. Is there just a simple way to wipe the HDD and install Win7?

I included steps if you want to rescue your current system or data.

The hardware tests should be done first anyway given the problem.

If you are able to boot the DVD then you can copy out your files, wipe the HD and reinstall using it - but you reported you couldn't boot into the first screen of DVD so did you not want any bootable alternatives?

Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Burn the DVD at 4x with ImgBurn - it never fails. Make sure the ISO says "Bootable" in text at left first after loading it in.

    Hello pongli.

If you can't get the Windows installer to boot so you can do a wipe "secure erase" of the Hard Disk drive (HDD) have a look at Option Three in this tutorial at the link below, to see an out-line of how to do one with the Partition Wizard bootable CD.

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

Be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

We are not allowed to link to Win7 downloads here as they encourage piracy. Since you have a key, just find or borrow any Win7 retail installer and unlock all versions to reinstall with your Product key: Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create
