Windows 7: installed 7 os and disk drive no longer works

installed 7 os and disk drive no longer works

Hi

after installing windows 7 operating system, i cannot use my external disk drive.

everytime I insert a CD/DVD it recognizes it but does not run it.

any help would be much appreciated

Look on the external's website for any newer firmware or driver.

Does it have a letter in Disk Mgmt? Assign one if not.

Plug and replug. Restart.

Check your AutoPlay settings in control panel. I have AutoPlay disabled so any external media doesn't auto play. What you describe is the way my system works by default. I just go to the drive and run the setup or autorun file to launch the disk.

Well if all else fails then another thing could be that there is something physically wrong with the drive =/ lets hope that it does not come to this but just another thing that could happen.
