MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

don't sweat it. True, it's possible that you will fill that drive up to the very max and that a system image will exceed 120 GB, but that's a rare system.

If you think you need more then by all means get a bigger one.

I have a laptop with a 120 GB hdd. Of that I'm using less than 65 GB. True is that I don't rip dvds. My backup drive has backups from two computers with space left over.

You can shrink to make space for a data partition at the end of your HD, copy the data into it, then as long as you are careful not to touch that data partition during install it should keep your data safe while you install to C.

I would use free Partition Wizard bootable CD to Delete and then Wipe all of the partitions besides the data partition, to overwrite factory code which might conflict. Then create and format your install partition Primary NTFS, label it so you can spot it easily from the booted Win7 installer.

W 7 64-bit Ultimate

Hello W7Noob, welocme to Seven Forums!

Just so you will know; installed programs and applications cannot be saved/backed-up, they will have to reinstalled from scratch so be sure to have all the program installers and any program activation keys saved to a safe place so they can be accessed after the clean install.

Only personal data can be saved / backed-up.
