Installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 instead of Professional x64

    Hi!

I bought a a serial key of Windows 7 Professional x64, but I accidentally have installed Ultimate x64. And I spent 2 weeks setting up my computer, installing soft-wares, games and other stuff. And now I figured out that the key of Professional x64 wont work on Ultimate. Is there any way to shift it to Windows 7 Professional x64 without affecting all the files and settings.

    Regards.

I know about upgreade ... but never heard about downgrade Probably you are to go for a clean install with professional ... but before doing it , wait for any other suggestions :) It will not take a long time to come .

The difference between Professional and Ultimate aren't worth the problem... Enjoy Ultimate!

I'm quite certain if you call Microsoft, they can sort things out for you. They'll probably even let you keep ultimate and activate it for you.

I doubt that. No way are they gonna give him Ultimate for the price of Pro. He needs to backup and reinstall

You may be right. However, he already has Ultimate installed and Microsoft would have nothing to gain or lose by not letting him keep it installed. The only reason I say this is because my calls to MS in the past have been very, very, positive. They let me install a Windows 7 upgrade on a clean, brand new HDD and they never even asked me if I had a previous version of Windows. Basically, their attitude was this; "We just want that operating system up and running on a PC as it does us no good sitting in a DVD case. We have nothing to gain or lose by not activating it for a potential user"
Actually, they do have something to gain; A satisfied customer.:)
