    Windows start up screen freezing

I just got rid of my 80gig HDD that was using w7 and moved to a 200g SATA drive. I can't seem to get past the starting windows screen, it locks up and doesn't move, if I reboot by PC and select boot from last know best config, it goes to the setting up windows but then reboots my pc. I don't know what's wrong cause it was working on my 80gig. My 200 HDD does have 100megs reserved for windows files, which w7 install reserved after I did the format

    Running x58 mb
    Corsair 850 ps
    12g ram
    Gtx 260 vid card
With just the 1 HDD attached currently

Did you had any raid system?

If you attach your old HD does it work?

If you try to startup in SafeMode or VGA (safe video) does it work?

If you just fresh installed your win7 and then copied from old to new... I think it could be a controller problem or more probably something wrong with some driver (here's why try testing safe mode) or your new HD!

I agree with ripp3r. Try safe mode with networking. Have a look at device manager see if any conflicts are showing up. Maybe run a virus scan and malwarebytes might be worth a shot. Good luck to you with your problem,

    Hello afmiller.

    First.

If the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

    Second.

You may have corrupt data on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that is hindering the installation process, as it seems you have no data on the HDD to be concerned with, do a wipe (secure erase) to the HDD before you start the install; I would also create a single 100GB partition to do the install to, see Step #2; together these 2 steps may get you installed.
