HDD clicking

its an external drive when i plug it in it clicks 3x & nothing shows up in my computer, is it dead?

It certainly sounds like it (no pun intended)...I've had similar happen on many occasions

Might be time to get a new 1 i'm afraid

The arm slaps up against the drive spindle routine! DOA! Once that arm goes kiss the drive bye bye!

If you are hearing a constinuous clicking sound that would be the main indicator of a failed drive needing replacement. Other drives can fail without making a peep while the tick ... tick ...tick ...tick sounds are the one universal indicator for a mechanical failure with no repair options.

Hopefully you won't be losing anything important. If the drive was just bought new return it immediately for a refund or replacement.
