Hello all, new to the board. Getting ready for my first pc build and have a question.
I have all the parts picked out and I am going to buy them all soon. I have an older
HP PC that is on its last legs. It has Vista(which i hate). My question is, Am I entilted to an upgraded version of Windows 7 since I already have a liscence for Vista? I want to install Win7 Home Premium 64bit and a Crucial 60gb SSD. Thanx for all your responces.
If you mean the free win7 upgrade program, that stopped from january onwards. Though no harm in calling HP to inquire.
OTOH, if you mean whether you can upgrade install to win7 using an upgrade disk, yes you can. You can also do a clean install with that disk.
An HP Vista license won't get you an upgrade. If it is an OEM version for that machine.
Another words it came installed with Vista.
If you installed Vista yourself on the HP and have a seperate copy of Vista with a COA on the box then yes you can use that to upgrade to Win 7 on the new machine.

If you buy an OEM /7, the cost is about the same as for an upgrade version. You can then use it for your new rig - but it can never be moved to another mobo. OEM versions have to stay with the mobo where they were first installed.
Using an upgrade version on a new mobo using a Vista fom another board as a base is not going to work either. So the OEM is probably your cheapest bet.
