Crashing during install, video related I think

Well I am officially frustrated. My install of Windows 7 goes smoothly until the very last step. I get a quick flash of BSOD (not long enough to see the issue) and then the computer reboots. When it reboots, it tried to resume the install when the screen flashes and I get a message explaining that the installation cannot continue.

I do a shift F10 and type compmgmt and go to device manager. Lots of things come up with exclamation marks including the VGA controller. I have the driver disk for my new motherboard, and am able to get to the drivers, it finds them, but fails to install them every time. So I am back to the reboot only to fail.

This is a new build, my first one.

I have as follows.

Biostar A880g+ w/ ATI Radeon HD 4250 integrated graphics.

2 gigs ram (tested fine with memtest)

AMD Athlon II X2 255 3.1ghz regor

Seagate 500gb SATA hard drive

Any Ideas on this? I am on the verge of trying another motherboard and returning this one.

Crazy thing is, I was going to run Ubuntu on this machine, but it too failed at the last step, when I could get it that far!

Welcome to SevenForums. Is this a retail or OEM disk or did you burn it? I ask because sometimes with a burned disc if it's not burned at 4x it will have issues crop up during the install.

Now I see Ubuntu has also failed makes me wonder about the drive. Even though their new doesn't exactly guarantee their good.

Possibly you could run seatools in Dos bootable disc? If not once it gets resolved you should still keep this link and run it. | Seagate

This is a newly purchased OEM disk. The Ubuntu disks (and there were a lot of them) were burned, some on CD, some on DVD, on two different burners.

I have 3 different dvd drives that I have tried for installs.

I will try the seatools bootable disk later and see if there is an issue with the hard drive.

One thing that I just thought of. When I ran the Ubuntu Live CD, I would get a notice at the top about a video driver being needed. This further leads me to believe that it could be video driver related.

I almost wonder if I should go pick up an inexpensive video card from CompUsa just for the install, so that I can get the proper video driver installed if windows finally installs?

Have you tried running a CHKDSK from the install DISK before the continue of the install...Also try running the install on a positive working ram alone... remove any pci cards on the board and run on minimum power consumption..

Do you have the latest BIOS version update? If so, clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Check the SATA controller setting in BIOS: set to AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Try installing the mobo display driver first by itself from Command Prompt.

I have cleared the CMOS a couple of times. I will have to try setting the SATA controller. Also have wiped the hard drive, but will follow the tutorial above.

I am quite a novice, how do I get to the command line and how do I install the MOBO video driver from there?

I finally got it to install, only to have crashes. Every program that I open, explorer, media center etc, crashes, and shortly after BSOD.

I have run Seatools, checked the drive and erased it, the tests all came back good, took a long time to do, but they came out good.

I changed motherboards, windows 7 found a driver for everything on this new board, no problem.

I let memtest run for almost 9 hours (from a ubuntu cd) no errors.

What could this be? I have been googling the stop codes with no luck, I really need to write them down.

Since I can boot windows fully before it crashes, I am at a loss. Could the memory still be flaky, even though it tests fine? I can't think of much more to replace!

Troubleshoot the bluescreen error by uploading the bugcheck report to our Crashes forum with a brief description: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

They will tell you what exactly is causing the crashes.

Meanwhile, scour the Event Viewer>Custom>Admin view to google repeat errors to resolution. Check also the Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking the WEI score link at Computer>Properties. Check for cued isses on Tools page, generate a System Health Report.

Are you using the drivers given by Win7 installer and then updated quickly via optional Windows updates? Only change out drivers if performance dictates that you do so first.
