Windows 7 x64 driver installation issue

Hi, everyone! I've recently built a PC and intend to run win 7 x64 on it which I got free as a student. I downloaded it and burned the iso onto a dvd at the lowest speed available. When I run my brand new PC (no previous data on the drives, everything is straight from the store)I choose my language and time zone, after when I install I get the following message:

"A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flashdrive, please insert now. Note if the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step" I get the options "Browse" "OK" and "Cancel" If I hit browse I get to browse my drivers(?) I note that my Wester Digital caviar is not displayed unless it marked as "X/Boot" I can see my USB stick and DVD player, though.

When I then try to continue it scans for a couple of seconds and then I get the message: "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK" And then I cant continue, ive searched and read similar threads but I can not get it to work. Any thoughts or opinions would be highly appreciated

    Regards Jonatan

Try booting the DVD in another computer to see that it loads correctly and discovers the HD. If not, burn another at 4x speed using ImgBurn.

Unplug all peripherals and other HD"s.

Can you try install from USB flash stick? The easiest method is to install UltraISO trial version, Open ISO on File tab, Write Image on Bootable tab, Format, Write. Boot stick by setting it as first to boot in BIOS setup, or using one-time BIOS boot menu.

    Try another DVD drive.

There are other methods for writing to stick but that is the one which always works for me.

It may be listed under HD's in BIOS setup or one-time BIOS boot menu.

Ok so now I followed your instructions exactly and booted from the USB stick. The problem is still there and everything looks the same as when I booted from the DVD except that it says "booting from USB" in the start. *sigh*

Now that install media and DVD drive are ruled out, try installing the SATA controller driver from your chipset at the error/prompt.

How far does the install get in each case, DVD and USB?

Think you will find that despite it being a brand new motherboard, it is using an old and essentially unsupported chipset on it. Your motherboard,

MSI Global – Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

which despite what it is called, NVIDIA® GeForce 6150SE / nForce430, is still based the old Nforce 4 chipset, and Nvidia hasn't provided any chipset drivers for it for Windows 7 despite the fact that it is more than capable of running it (also wonder how much Nvidia is paying the board manufacturers to use up the old stock). MSI does have a Windows 7 driver listed for it on the download page,

MSI Global – Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

which is nothing more than this one,

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.49 WHQL

    directly from Nvidia.

Now with that all said if it is due to a lack of native support in Windows for that chipset then you will need to,

    1. Download either of the above.

    2. Use something like 7Zip, 7-Zip , and extract it to a USB key.

    3. Start the Windows install again and when you get to the part where is asks for a driver, point it to the (assuming you are using SATA drives and the controller is configured to run in SATA mode),

    mcp_764_mb\WIN764\IDE\Win764\sata_ide

that should get the necessary driver installed, and then allow Windows to see the hard drive.

The error message you are getting reads like a prompt for you to insert the driver media, unzipped to CD or flash stick, to see if it picks it up.

This is why it says you can take the Install DVD out of the drive.

Download either of the driver files from above, and download 7Zip as well,

    7-Zip

Install 7Zip, then right click on the driver file, select 7zip from the list, then select "Extract to". Then open the extracted folder, locate the IDE folder and place it on a USB key.
