i had that exact same error using a brand new 22 speed SATA DVD burner drive.

i had to take it out and use my very old IDE DVD drive to get windows installed.

once installed though, the new DVD drive works well within windows 7.

was weird that it would boot from the drive and start to run the setup, but then not be able to be seen for installing though.

thats the make/model of the DVD player that had the install issue, though works fine once installed

OK, I downloaded again, and when I ran it said disk error, anyway I restored grub and then added an entry for Windows 7 telling it to make that partitin active when loading. Now it says "Cannot frind BOOTMGR"

ps, I should say it seemed to install fine when I ran it, it was only the install rebooted the computer that this happened.

What kind of DVD player are you using? I have exactly this same error, using a Samsung SH-S183L SATA unit. I've seen other reports of this failure with SATA Samsung devices.

Can anyone confirm that Win 7 install disk works with any SATA DVD player?

BOOTMGR/NTLDR is missing errors is common in two scenerios:

Bad bits in the downloaded ISO or burned image; a side effect of using ISO's from the internet, rather than mfg'd DVD's.

Any reboot during critical OS install points. A fix is being looked into for this, so that the boot loader sequence only gets changed once, breifly at the end of install; but won't post until launch.

interestingly for no apparent reason, both windows 7 and windows xp decided that they would install perfectly with no errors, both were giving disk errors after the first reboot previously, well im happy, many thanks for the help
