upgrade from win 7 home to prof

    Hello,

I have a win 7 home version installed on my laptop. I have the code for prof on the way. Can i start installing software already? before upgrading to win 7 prof? Or is it wise to wait until the key arrives?

    any comments are welcom,

THing is I have the laptop with a clean install of win 7 home edition.
the key for upgrade to win 7 professional is being mailed to me.
But i want to start installing software on it so I can start using it.
What I don;t know is: if upgrading after installing the software will have effects on the already installed software.

You'll need to wait until the key arrives to insert it, after typing "Anytime Upgrade" in Start Search box to start the process which takes just minutes to unlock the extra few features in the higher version.

It will accept either Anytime or retail Upgrade keys.

Be sure to save externally a Win7 Backup Image of your Home Premium installation so you have a path back if you wish to return to the licensed OS on that machine, to use your Upgrade elsewhere.

Save also a Win7 backup image of the new Pro install so if necessary you can reimage the HD or its replacement quickly without having to reinstall both OS's (with an Anytime key) or reinstall just Pro (if you bought a retail upgrade).

Thanks for the advise. It's a paid upgrade to profesional on a HP laptop, I believe HP creates a recovery sector on the hard drive just in case...

thanks a lot for the info.

It should be an Anytime Upgrade. Let us know if it turns out to be anything else.

May I ask what HP charges for this Upgrade from Home Premium to Pro?
