Computer technician installed Win 7 very cheap

I took my computer to a computer store and the guy said he would be able to install windows 7 for me and he only charged $50 afterwards. I asked him how is that possible.. with his broken English all I could understand was that he is a business and he can do it or something since he is a business.

    Any expllanations?

ps I will be buying windows 7 a second time since the last time I purchased it, it was only download and no backup dvd. I talked to microsoft and they told me I have to buy again since they can't send me a backup DVD.

Technically he can do it and he did it. Unfortuantely, doing installs that way is not illegal. My guess is he bought a Windows 7 family pack for $150 which comes with 3 licenses and he is putting it onto your 1 computer for $50 and selling the other 2 for another $100.

He is supposed to provide you with an OEM copy of the software and that is more than $50. It's about $100.

It's possible, although very unlikely he does enough OEM business that he gets a discounted ra on the OEM licenses.

Sounds like a Volume License key or "family pack" like parks said... You can check the properties under "Computer" to make sure it's validated... Once validated, find the tutorial on how to make a recovery disk from your OS and you should be ok.

If you were sent the Product Key for the Win7 you purchased and downloaded online then you don't need to buy it again - a retail copy is good for life and can migrate to any machine of your choice as often as you wish.

If you lost the Product Key and still have it installed, you can audit the key you own off your HD using Belarc Advisor or Magical Jellybean. Then guard it as you would other valuables.

You only need to borrow or find any retail installer for your version to install with your Product Key.

We can always help you get a perfect Win7 install here and it doesn't cost anything.
