windows 7 doesnt see XP operating system

Hello new user here, I have just installed win xp media edition 2005 on a extended partition on the same hardrive as win 7 but it doesnt show up at startup?, the only way I can get into xp ,is to perform a system repair. After I have done this I cant get into win 7 without repairing that?, hope this make sense I needed to install win xp as win 7 doesnt recognise my mp3 player creative zen 20 gig anyone any ideas as to how to get a boot screen showing both operating systems thanks.

i would not advice you to install 2 different versions of windows just because windows 7 stopped recognizing your mp3 player. try searching a bit bit first. if you do have to install windows xp along with 7 then i would recommend you to install it on two separate primary partitions. First install xp then windows 7 that way windows 7 will be able to detect it and will show it as "older windows version" -or something like that.

Hi

Usually, older versions comes first new ones when installing another windows version in the same PC. But before doing anything that may compromise your system check, right clicking my computer icon>Properties> when the System screen pops up, click Advanced System Settings link and when the dialog box open click on the Advanced Tab if it´s not selected. Now on Start up and Recovery hit the Setting button.

It will pop up a new dialog box and you´ll see at System Start up - Default Operating System a drop down menu showing you default OS. See if Win xp is there and if all its options are available.

As gaz already posted you need this.
Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

Go to Method Two in this tutorial and start at Step #2. You already did #1.

You will need to use the XP disc to boot back into XP and download Easy BCD Step #6.
Step #7 download .Net Framework 2 if it is not already installed. This is needed to open Easy BCD in Step #8.
Follow directions from there for the Easy BCD.

This will give you the choice of booting to Windows 7 or XP after the bios screen.

I have the same set up. So know from experience.
