    Installing XP with 7


    Hi,
    I have partitioned my 500GB hard-drive allowing me 50GB for windows XP, Every time i try and install windows XP i get an error.
    My operating system is Windows 7 Home pre. I own a dell studio 1745, I have tried this a few times and i keep getting BSO. I'm trying to install windows xp pro SP2



    I get the error below:


    Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure its properly configured . Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption.
    Technical error information
    ...STOP: 0X0000007B C0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000.

    Some are having issues with SATA drivers not being installed for XP, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

    Thanks for your reply however i do not have a SATA hard drive i have a "Samsung HM500JI ATA"

    Hi,

    I'm on step 10 of the tutorial however im not too sure what driver i need to copy from?

    500GB spinpoint SATA 3.0 - HM500JI - Mobile SATA - hard disk drives | SAMSUNG

    I have found the above driver however im not to sure what to do.

    Jack, install the driver in a known location on your your hard drive.
    Use your device manager and under drives select the drive that you are going to update the driver.
    In the dialog box you will se an option to update the driver. Click the update box and you will be queried for the location of the driver. Locate the driver and update it.

    The file on the website above is not letting me install it as my system is a 64bit and it does not support it.

    Irregardless of your OS being x64 or 32 bit you have backward compatability.
    As I understand your issue: You have OS 7 installed but you want to add xp?
    If this is the case there are some superb tutorials here concerning dual boot installations.

    Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

    I'm trying to follow the above tutorial, however I'm getting nowhere
