Where did you get the ISO? Use ImgBurn at 4x speed to burn DVD
    .
Try install from USB flash stick. Install UltraISO, on File tab open ISO, on Bootable tab Write Image, Format, Write.

Check for newer BIOS version update. If none, Reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

WHile in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI first, then if neccessary try IDE mode.

Test your RAM with memtest86 for 5-6 passes. Remove all but 2gb RAM for install, swap RAM sticks.

Test your HD with maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

See if the HD not detected by installer is seen in BIOS setup. Swap cables, check connections.

Not an ISO, this is a purchased install disc. I had done a pin reset of the CMOS last night.

I'll be going through all the diagnostics listed here by the great help I have been offered and running them, no matter how flawless this install seems to go for me. I just NEED to know what the original error was.

EDIT: Bugger! My install key isn't working. Double checked that it is typed in properly, but saying that the key isn't valid. Pretty sure this is the 3rd time I have installed from this disk (original drive twice, now this one), so even if it was somehow getting online already (LAN is connected) I should still be able to use this key...

EDIT2: A search on the net shows that the issue is that this is an upgrade version. I know I saw a walkthrough on here for installing clean from an upgrade CD, so that should tell me what to do at this step. Maybe I can use my old XP code and then this one? Anyway, off to find that walkthrough.

If your other HD is not readable from your new install, try using the DVD to copy out your files: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Next use Paragon Rescue CD to see if it can access the data or partition.

Then use Recuva Data Recovery software as a last resort.

The thread I was remembering for install with upgrade was stickied. I just had to not enter my key, and register online later. Thanks VERY MUCH for all your help.

Greg: Awesome linkage for the data recovery. I'll check it all out when I get time. Heading home for the holidays, so might wind up reviving this thread in 2 weeks when I finally get around to recovery.

I suppose one other question (quite likely easily answered in an internet search I am about to do) would be: "How do I access the rest of my Drive? I only see the 100 GB partition so far.

EDIT: Figured out the whole partitioning thing. Making logicals within an extended AND assigning a drive letter. Couple steps there.

    Hello again.

Good to see you got it installed and thanks for the update.

This is an excellent method to copy out the files from the other drive if needed.

How to Copy & Paste in Recovery Console on Windows 7 or Vista

You'll need to do one of the workarounds if you install Upgrade version to clean or new HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

The Registry change is easiest. Then activate at Computer>Properties activation link.

Make sure you have XP or Vista on hand and don't use it again while it is used as qualifier for Upgrade.
