Windows 7: Trying To Reinstall w7 Upgrade on new Sata III as c: with AHCI support

19 Dec 2010   #21

Thanks gregrocker

Best I can tell I can not turn off the marvell tray. I just got into its gui main page thingy. I used the same password I use to log into w7. I clicked through everything , I can not find a way to turn it off.

It says my drive is running at 6g/s speeds, think it said the bus is limited to 5g/s tho. And if I right click on the safe to remove hardware thingy it is showing my c: hdd in it, and show eject marvell 91xx config ata device. So the marvell mur seems to be something. And this mobo has a added chip like the msi gd85 mobo. It lets us run sataIII and usb3 with no hit on the pcie, I think it is, Many normal p55 mobos, if using those devices on some p55 it slows the pcie to 8x or something like that. Not so on my mobo.

But Being marvell runs the only 2 sataIII ports on my mobo, it has to be tied in some way, or seems to me. I am not sure how it all works exactly and I see no setting in the bios, like I read gigabyte has a mobo with a extra chip something like mine and does near same thing. But the giga mobo has a setting in its bios for sata3 boost or thingy. I think mine is just auto and no setting for it or something. The msi p55a-gd65 and gd85 are near same mobos. I think the 85 has sli. But only 1 year warranty. My mobo has 1 less cooler above the cpu, no sli, but has 3 year warranty. I never sli or cf any way and only use nv cards so. Could use an extra card for physics maybe. But never will.

I use avast free av and defender comes with w7 and I use spysweeper- when gaming I turn off all security other than firewall.. Normally I would use spybot to turn off extra stuff at system start like extra nividia or sound manager starting and stuff like that. I never turn off any windows or system start stuff tho. I have things tweaked on system for low impact and for most game performance..

I think I am going to have to live with the marvell tray. I kind of wish I can turn it off. My bud is not so smart when it comes to pc's. He will have gone into something and turn something off what ever.. I will warn him never to mess with anything marvell or that safe to remove hardware thingy.. He has no flash drives or nothing to connect to his pc anyway.. Does not mean some other friend might not have any tho..

I will warn him if so. Make sure when they go to disconnect the device they click on the right things etc. He will be ok. He only has 1 bud from ny comes down sometimes maybe checks his email from my buds pc. They should be ok. I am building 2 of these systems. my bud buys I build and maintain. Works out good for us both really..

I like my security as is. I will learn how to make w7 more lean for gaming- but my lil 8800 is working hard under dx10, and my res is so high, I have to dial back game quality settings a lil. But res is so high it still looks very nice. It will get better if I can ever get me a new vid card. Being disabled on ssdi, I am so poor I can never buy anything on my own like talking about it. Normally I sit here and play my games some 17 hours a day 7 days a week.. might have to edit some game play videos.. Might watch a movie on line sometimes or post in forums , mostly game forums what ever..

I think I am good to go. You helped me a lot greg. Thank you very much.. Ha ha you are still trying to help..

w seven forums is great.

Great Holidays to ya..

I do have a question tho.. I never really know what to do. But normally when I install programs I let them install to start menu what ever it is. I am not sure I need to do that or for every program I ever install anyway. If install to start menu does that not mean they load into memory or something when the computer starts. Maybe I should stop doing that for some or most programs I install. I guess I kind of figured they needed to or should go to the start menu. I think I worded that right ?..

I need to plug in usb connection to my ide external drive/s and see how all of that acts, I guess the normal windows thing will pop up? Your device is installed working and let me go into the folders etc. And click on it to remove the device etc. I do not know if marvell has taking over that stuff or not. But I need to get to the drive, and move some stuff back to my new build and os install so. But in no hurry right now- just saying is all.

Largest files are my borderlands back up with all 4 dlc's installed and save games. and my music- mostly mp3's like 12gigs each folder. Info moves faster from my external drives than it does drive to drive on my pc. Or did a few days ago or seems to me. It is a lot faster than on my fatal1ty an9 32x dual core any way. It is rocket fast- I think its the new quad core, so..

Oh by the way. My system seems to be running fine. I just woke from a nap. I let steam run and install bioshock and hl2 epi2 for me. I want to test them out on my new wide screen. And bioshock can be a good stress test too.. New system or vid card or monitor, I normally play through a lot of my games again.

see ya..

I dial back areo type stuff. Turn off wmp- I use gom as system player and jetaudio just to listen to my music pls, and maybe divx web player to watch and download movies. Trying to turn off more stuff as I find it. I do not have the added indexing turned on and have gadets what ever off. Some things I am not really sure about, I wait or forget how to find stuff..

I loved tuneup utilities 2004- I used it all the time I used xp. It was great. Dont think I will use anything like it for w7 tho. But was some things I could do in tu04 was easy to get to to tweak system or how windows looks acts etc. I have to find stuff in w7. I am getting around pretty good tho.

If I stop adding all my installed programs to the start menu might help.

You're smart not to try the tweaks we used in XP and early Vista on Win7, which is already as lean and optimized as an OS can get. If you need to edit visual effects it will say so on the top of Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking on your WEI score link - that's also where to find your Performance log to monitor hangs and lags, Generate a System Health Report, and study the various Performance monitors.

I would not allow anything into my msconfig>Startup except AV and gadgets - all others are freeloaders on startup time, RAM, CPU and can spy on you. Startup Programs - Change

Follow up.

My buds rig went home yesterday. I got a few shots to share, and say thanks again..

My cam batteries are acting up. Sorry not better photo'. The second photo. I changed out my speakers set up etc, and its photo was with our cam corder, it has no flash.. The top 5.25 bay filter is a test. I need better materials to make a better 1, but it works well, not so pretty tho. If I relax the pantyhose, It looks a lot better, is black. You can not see through it, but less air flow...>

Build #2, my buds rig, was a snap to build. Not 1 fault in the entire build from- view reliability history. The large case was nice to work in.. Both systems running great and with AHCI support.

Ha ha I got them running perfect in spite of ?

MSI P55A-GD65 v1.1 bios 1.3. I5-750. W7 64 bit.
Crucial 4GB kit CT2KIT25664BA1339 9-9-9-24 T1 1.5v
Corsair CAFA50. ASUS ML248H 24". Corsair TX 650w.
LIAN LI PC-A70F Black +120mm Intake Mod. EVGA 9800GT.
WD2500AAKX Sata7C: WD3200AAJS Sata1E: Fios15\2mbps.

Good to go..>

See ya.
