Windows server 2003 vs win 7

I have a new server at work so brought the 3 yr old server home
has twin xeon 2.8 CPU

I thought it a waste of computer to throw away and so figured on wipe the system and install win 7 to push movies around the home

I just want it to sit in the basement and attach to my readynas pro which has 6 TB of movies

I know little; the windows server 2003 program seems very fast but I am not a tech and have two other i7 game machines with win 7 in the study

I thought win 7 made sense as it is what I am used to

would people agree? or should I leave the server program and try to configure to push movies ? how I do that?

Funny you should say this. I noticed at home but not at work the noise the fan is making. I plan for it to sit in the basement so noise is not an issue.

It cost a lot of money at the time and this is why I did not wish to abandon it.

why does it cost more to run? is it just the big fan.

I know nothing about computers and usually for home just buy from local store and use.

Is there a use for 3 year old servers, should I give it to another small business or throw it ? The hard drives are only 75 gig raptors (2 x mirrored).

I have just been off to look on ebay. There is no real market for such a machine and so i will just wipe and give it away. Gaz

At this time I intend replacing the mirror drives with larger WD
then loading win 7 and seeing if it will work well as a media server for my movies
see how it goes

I removed the hard drives (not hard just pull them out). Says western digital WD740
SATA hard drive.

so does that mean it is not a scsi?

anyway put it in my desktop (not hard just slid it in) and formated.

so I figured I would just shove it in and load win7

but it starts to load and says no hard disks found

I thought it must be something due to the bios being tweaked by my tech; but I can not access the bios

it says press [alt]+[F2] but nothing happens and I have been pressing all combinations I can think of in order to try to get to the bios without luck

any thoughts?

at least it is filling my day

also sends up a message saying that it has lost one of the mirror hard drives
which is correct as I pulled it out so I had one formated and one not in case I had to put it back to normal again

perhaps no one cares but I got into bios
and found no IDE drives
then found scsi SATA
so back to square one
do not know what I am doing so will give it to my / a tech to play with
