It has nothing to do with windows 7, but a standard mbr limitation. Which i 4 primary partitions. If you consider logical partition, you should be able to increase the number of partitions drastically. Perhaps merging the primary data partition into a logical one connected to the primary system partition, would be the best. Then you have room for 1 new primary partition.

Linux and Windows don't always work well on the same hard drive. The boot managers have conflicts.

The best thing to do would be to get a second hard drive and install Linux on the seperate drive.

Or it is possible to run linux as a virtual OS inside Windows.
Never tried it myself but I know many do this.
Check in the Virtual section off of the sevenforums main page.

I realize it isn't what you want but the only place to put it now is where your D is.
Then you have no data space.

Hello timvdhoorn, welcome to Seven Forums!

You can get an idea from the outline in Option Four of this tutorial at the link below to convert the D: Data partition to an Extended partition/Logical drive as has been suggested and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

There can be only 4 Primary or 3 Primary and 1 Extended no more.
