You do know what the bios is, right?
Yeah, I went into the BIOS settings and selected "Load fail-safe defaults" then saved.

So now you need to set your bios to boot from DVD First boot option and then install windows 7.

After giving up on W7, I went to PC world and bought vista ultimate 64 bit. I've installed it but I am still having issues, my CPU is locked at 100% and everything is extremely laggy. It took me 30 - 40 mins just to install the 9800GTX drivers.

Something is obviously massively wrong here, XP ran fine (32 bit) but Vista 64 is 100% all the time and unbareable. Clicking an app takes forever to load and is all laggy, w7 did not work atall.

    What's wrong!

I could be wrong about this, but everything I can find indicates that the core 2 duo chips all support 64-bit.

If it didn't, I would suspect the OP would see what I have seen when attempting to install x64 on an x86 machine - a full-screen, text-based error message telling me how stupid I was. I would assume that since the OP didn't mention that error condition that his chip does, indeed, support 64-bit software.

You are absolutely correct. if your running a Core2Duo or better, chances are your machine is 64 bit capable.

Although it sounds like there is an underlying software issue here, as even a retail version was having problems. Try taking out all RAM except one stick, try again, then switch the stick, and try again.

Other than that, it'll be like stabbing in the dark looking for where the faulting component is... you might just want to plug each thing into another machine (Processor to start) and see if their are problems.

    Keep us updated,
    Thanks,

this may be way off the mark but both win 7 and vista were both installed from a dvd. Is it possible there is a problem with the dvd player? If the hware is 64bit and he has 8gigs ram, and even a retail vista dvd took forever. what would it hurt to check the dvd player

    Hope this helps

this sounds like a hardware confict. go in the Bios and disable anything to do with a floppy drive, then reinstall.

Just had this exact problem taking 5-10 mins to get the country screen.
