    Windows 7 Recovery Problem

hi: i am not able to run recovery on by laptop. when i try to run recovery from hard drive or even booting system from DvD Rom using recovery discs i get the following error:

    Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

my system is HP pavilion dv6 2150us. my hard drive is dynamic ( someone told me that this error is because of dynamic hard drive). will i have to convert dynamic hard drive to basic to run recovery? or is there another way around?

Plz guide me for this error.
    Thanks

You cannot reinstall or recover using Disks or partition because the HD has changed incorrectlly to Dynamic Disk.

So you have to convert it back to Basic using theog's link so you can boot the Recovery DVD to lay down the Recov image.

You can use an earlier version of Partition Wizard boot CD to convert from Dynamic to Basic without Data Loss: http://cid-24a0e9031e104daf.skydrive...4.2%20free.zip#

Either way, I would try copying out my data this way: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or using Paragon Rescue CD free app to Recover files.

Hello Kamranashraf2, welcome to Seven Forums!

The only version of the Partition Wizard program that still supports converting a Dynamic disk back to Basic without the chance of data loss is the paid Professional version; have a look at this link below.

    Partition Wizard Professional Edition

    Edit:
       Information

I just tested this in VirtualBox and it will convert a Dynamic disk to Basic with the Partition Wizard 4.2 installed to Windows 7 and it requires a system reboot to complete the process.

I don't know how to go about it if you can't boot to Windows to start with.

There are a number of ways to proceed. See the tutorial below.
A link to an earlier version of Partition Wizard (v4.2) was given early in the discussion thread. If you can't get hold of this there are 2 other ways to procede without destroying your data. ALL approaches come with a risk.

    Read this tutorial
Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk
In addition to suggesting option 4, I gave another another way if you are comfortable using a Hex editor. Takes 30 seconds, but not everyone is comfortable doing this. See post 85:
Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk

the theog post 2 should help making recovery disks if all else fails. I would suggest you try to make your recovery disks first then try the above approaches.

Every approach comes with a risk - back up your data first

thnx very much guys for being such helpful...

i used partion wizard to convert harddisk from dynamic to basic, it took only few seconds to complete the process and after reboot i was able to run recovery to restore my notebook.

there was no data loss while using partion wizard to convert harddisk from dynamic to basic.

For the benefit of others what version of Partition Wizard did you use. The "current" link in post 4 gives you version 5.2. The free version of 5.2 apparently doesn't allow you to do the dynamic to basic conversion.
