Instillation does not complete

I tried to install Win7 Home premium on my wife's computer. I installed a new 1TB western digital (green) HD and disconnected her existing HD with Vesta. (She had gone back to another XP computer as she did did like vesta) The clean installation seemed to go normally till the last step and gave the message that it would shut down and re-start. It did not. I tried again with the same results. I then formatted the new HD with the same fesults.
I then diconnected the new HD and re-connected the original HD and attempted to install the up-grade over the vesta OS with the same results.
Is there any thing else you need to know.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as my wife now thinks I have destroyed her computer.

Sounds like you had the right idea the first time around. Try again but have a look at this guide first - Clean Install Windows 7

Also if you're booting from the DVD make sure the DVD is the first boot device.

That has happened to me in the past while installing Win7 Ultimate.
From that day on I install using one HD and after all is stable and updated I then add the second HD. I even had one time Win7 installed the boot sector on drive #2 which was just a blank backup drive.

Thanks sygnus21.
My problem ocurs during COMPLETING INSTILLATION. It does the registery and te services than it freezes. There is no complete shut down.

Hmmm.... Have you tried installing any drivers during install? Also are you letting it go to the internet for updates? If Not let it.

Also you may want to look over that clean install link I provided to see if there's something you missed.

Lastly do you have your IDE controller set to AHCI? If not do so.

Let us know.

No drivers. I tried it connected to my router and no connected with the same results. Yes I looked at the link and every thing I did seemed to be the same at the link suggested.
The machine goes to choose CD to boot and will to let me get to my HD.

Try running a wipe (secure erase) to the Hard Disk Drive first to remove any corruption that a format will not remove; have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version installed from the emachines Support Downloads webpage for your model. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

In BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI first, then IDE mode if that fails.

Wipe the HD with zeroes before trying install. In the tutorial BFK posted just above, partition using Step 2.2 to Format a Primary NTFS partition then mark it Active.

After install, you can plug back in the Vista HD to access it's data or boot it using emachines F10 key at bootup.
