You can't mount or run XP from Windows 7. You'll have to get the USB flash stick to boot (not easy) or borrow an external CD drive to do the install.

I have never been able to get XP installer to boot from USB flash stick, trying every method I could find.

Maybe someone else will know since it is supposed to be possible.

May I ask why you want to overwrite Windows 7 with an XPired OS? Just askin.

I bought one of these and find myself using it all the time for a lot of different things:

Newegg.com - VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter

You should do your research first to see how well it works (or doesn't) in getting a spare internal DVD or CDROM drive to boot off one of these through your netbook.

Are you running 32 bit Windows 7? I am running 32 bit Ultimate on an old HP510 business notebook with Celeron and 1gb RAM and it runs fast with no hangs ever.

A lot depends on the install. If that's a factory install with all the bloatware, you could try clean reinstalling using these steps to get a purrfect install: re-install windows 7
