    Does it register in BIOS?

    Check cables and connections.

Boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD to see if SSD shows up. If so, wipe HD from Disk tab, partition NTFS Primary, mark target partition Active then try booted install again.

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

HD would need to be seen in BIOS to run maker's diagnostics/repair CD scan.

    Try swapping out the cables.

Check for newer BIOS version update on Support Downloads webpage for your model mobo. Reflashing the BIOS may solve these problems of sluggish boot screen and SSD not registering if you have reset the CMOS to no avail.
