    Until released it is rather upin the air.
    but you should be able to:
    1. clean install
    2. upgrade from Vista.
    PS: The upgrade Version is much cheaper, and you can also CLEAN install with it...

    Can you do a clean install of the upgrade version if you have XP? Or do you need to have a Vista key?

    Hello Jim,

    Sorry, but the only upgrade paths for Windows 7 is:

    • Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 or SP2 -> Windows 7 Home Premium
    • Windows Vista Business SP1 or SP2 -> Windows 7 Professional
    • Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 or SP2 -> Windows 7 Ultimate
    Upgrade Install with Windows 7

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hmm... what about buying a Vista upgrade and then a 7 upgrade? That might be cheaper than buying 7 outright.

    With all the problems upgrade cause, it would be worth the few bucks to have a retail copy of 7. Even if you plan to do clean installs with the upgrades. A new retail copy of 7 would be well worth the prevented headaches.

    YES and NO. You can CLEAN install Vista from any UPGRADE Disk with out a KEY, it gives you FULL Function for 27 days, then notice to UPGRADE with KEY. You use the same DISK (per instructions MS page 4 manual) to upgrade and this time use the Provided KEY.

    to make things faster. when installed turnoff the upgrades. then manually go to MS site, DL and install SP2. Now your 100% ready to use your Windows 7 UPGRADE Disk to Upgrade.
    Currently I have upgraded every version of Official and Leaked Versions of Windows 7 over my Original Vista Ultimate -Clean install.
    Yes, Im on Win7 7260 x86 Ultimate. Plz note Signature copy of Vista "Upgrade Version Ultimate" dual disk x86 and x64 and Win7 7260 activated.

    But if you did a clean install, there wouldn't be any upgrade headaches..

    I think $179 ($129 + $49) would be a decently cheaper price for Win7 HP. But I dunno what the GA price for the full version will be.

    Maybe they'll keep that glitch in the 7 Upgrade version and I won't have to go through Vista at all.
