Is it possible to install OEM Windows 7 starter from a CD ?

Hi I am having an HP net book mini 210 with windows 7 starter . It came as OEM and i did not receive any windows 7 starter cd . But there is a windows 7 serial number on the sticker at the bottom. I made 3 restore disks as advised. The original windows configuration in this machine has 4 primary partitions .(C drive , Recovery, HP tools and a partition named system).

I would prefer to have windows in C drive and all my data in another drive. I don't need HP tools . Deleting this partition will enable me to have linux as dual boot( right now it is not possible as it has already 4 primary partitions ).

Is it possible to reinstall windows 7 starter from a cd or pendrive and just enter the serial number given in the sticker at the bottom (like windows xp which came with an installation cd). This way I can partition it the way I want. If it is possible, where can i download an installation cd ?

Thanks in advance.

We're not allowed to link to Windows 7 downloads here as it encourages piracy, so you'll have to try to borrow a friends DVD to copy using ImgBurn (save image file, then burn to DVD at 4x speed).

If you download from web, check the comments and rightclick scan the ISO with your AV and Malwarebytes.

Hello deepla, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's some interesting information you may find useful and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save, if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all Versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

Though if there's nothing on the PC you need to save, I'd do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first.

If you know someone with an original Windows 7 DVD, it doesn't have to be starter as long as its 32 bit, ask them to make you a copy. You can then make a universal install DVD from that or create a bootable USB thumb drive to do the install from. There is nothing illegal about getting a copy, you already have a legal product code, all you need is the install media. The instructions for creating a universal install disk are already linked to in the post above.

Hi , gregrocker, Bare Foot Kid,theog and alphanumeric. Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I dont have a dvd for the windows 7 so I will try out the other methods which you suggested. My netbook is 64 bit will the technique described by alphanumeric work if i use a 64 bit dvd and make a bootable pendrive ? If i install 32 bit windows in this netbook , will there be a problem in the activation of windows or its functionality

Your Windows 7 license is good for either 32- or 64-bit.

You can extract the DVD ISO using ImgBurn, then write the ISO to flash stick using UltraISO trial version which is easiest: on File tab Open ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB or HD's in BIOS one-time Boot Menu.

Your netbook may be 64 bit but Windows 7 Starter is only available in a 32 bit version. The 64 bit Windows 7 DVD won't list Starter as an option. I assume their logic is it's only meant for Netbooks and other entry level PC's so there is no need for a 64 bit version.
