Unable to boot into 7 after XP installation onto partition

    Hello all,
After doing an install of xp on to a partition'd hard drive on a seven machine, now instead of the 7 boot loader, it goes straight to XP. Now I know the partition its all intact as I can see all my 7 files and folders. Not reinstalling would be helpful but can be done in a worst case scenario.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Jake90087.

In Windows XP disk management mark the Windows 7 partition as Active then do the 3 separate startup repairs with separate restarts outlined in this tutorial at the link below to create the Windows boot files to the Windows 7 partition and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

If you use the method given to mark Win7 partition Active then run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times to write the System boot files back over to Win7 and start it up, you may need to install EasyBCD 2.0 in Win7 to Add XP: accept boot files, it will autocomplete, Save, restart to Dual Boot Menu. http://neosmart.net/blog/2010/welcome-to-easybcd-2/

If you have any further problems, please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start menu. If you can't boot take a camera snap of free Partition Wizard bootable CD drive map and listings. http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

One problem. I right click and can't mark the partition as active in XP's diskmanager

To mark active using Win7 F8 Advanced Boot tools, DVD Repair console or Repair CD Command Line with Diskpart: Partition - Mark as Active
    DISKPART : At PC Startup
    System Repair Disc - Create

Or use free Partition Wizard bootable CD linked earlier to rightclick partiiton>Modify>Set to Active, OK, Apply.

Please post a snip of XPs disk management for us to look at.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

You shouldn't have to use EasyBCD to add a boot entry for XP doing it the way I suggested; the startup repairs should take care of that all by itself.

If XP is E: you can't mark the Logical drive as active as Windows 7 will not / is not able to boot from a Logical drive (or XP for that matter); have a look at Option Four of this tutorial at the link below to convert the Windows 7 partition to a Primary partition first.
