If you plug in your old Hd in, can BIOS find?
Well I just thew in another hard drive and it read it so I think mine is bad?
Also, you said you changed your sata cable, did you change the power connection from your power supply to the drive as well?
Unplug all other HD's, plug new HD into SATA1.
Next change SATA controller to AHCI. What are the avalable choices?
Do you have the latest BIOS version update?
I'm running a Seagate 1TB Barracuda. My bios auto detects new sata devices check if your bios has an auto detect setting.
You can download SeaTools but I can't see much point in proceeding if your BIOS cannot detect the HDD.
Edit: I was thinking of upgrading my HDD firmware to CC46 I think after reading this I won't bother! There may be something here that helps you
