Win 7 installed perfectly. But will not boot.

My system config is:

• Intel Pentium D 925
• MSI G33M 7357 motherboard
• Transcend 2*1GB DDR2 800 + 2GB DDR2 800 RAM
• Western Digital 250GB SATA boot disk.
• Sony IDE DVD-RW
• CoolerMaster Case and CM 500W PSU.

The system was running XP SP2 very fine. Till, I decided to migrate to 7 and thats when the long story started. . .

To begin a clean install, I wiped my HDD (on another machine) using HDD Wipe.

Then i proceeded with installing Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The installation (took about 20 mins) proceeded smoothly. After finishing, when I try to boot my PC, it gets stuck on 'Starting Windows' screen. One interesting thing to note is that at this screen, till the animation (4 dots merging to form windows logo) is on, the HDD light on the case keeps flickering (i guess something is loading). After this point, the light stops and the screen is stuck here. I read online that first time might take time, so I tried leaving it on for about an hour too.

In BIOS, I have tried disabling the floppy drive, and on board stuff like firewire, LAN, sound. I did not try disabling USB cuz I have a USB keyboard and mouse.

I have absolutely no clue as to what must be going wrong. Can someone please help me out?

P.S. I did run the Win 7 compatibility adviser and only went ahead when everything was fine.

Can you boot to safe mode ?
(on boot-menu select "Windows 7" type <F8> and select safe mode)

Try with only 2g of ram.

If you can get into Safe Mode, update the drivers in Device Manager.

Did you update the BIOS to latest version? What is the SATA controller setting in BIOS setup?

Try booting into Repair console to run repair if offered, if not click through to Startup Repair to run a few times.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself?

Well, I cant boot into safe mode too. It hangs at disk.sys

I tried a recovery. But that hangs too.

Tried with 2Gigs of RAM. Same result.

I will try with a PS/2 keyboard mouse and post.

Where should I check the SATA controller setting?

UPDATE: I thought of giving it one last go. I removed the 2 sticks of 1GB RAM; now the system was on only a 2GB stick. Tried to keep it as simple as possible. This time I used diskpart command during Win 7 installation and used clean all command to prepare the HDD. It worked! Installed like a charm!

After getting into Windows, I thought first I should get all drivers up and running. So I installed the chipset, lan, audio drivers. After finishing, I restarted the PC and alas! Same problem again.

Why would you change out the drivers given by the Win7 installer unless there is a performance reason to do so?

This is not XP. MS spent a fortune getting the drivers into installer or quckly updated via optional Windows Updates.

Install drivers one at a time with a reboot for each driver.
